A key component in the delivery of the HLC initiative is Activation. Place-based activation projects are designed based on community-level data and local stakeholder and community engagement. Heathcote Community House is leading the delivery of a local cooking initiative to support residents currently accessing food relief and most at need, to learn to cook healthy and affordable food.

This project aims to increase physical activity levels and opportunities for local Indigenous women who have young children.
This project installed a bike pump and repair station at the Long Gully BMX track. Sports Focus, LGNC and the Department of Transport and Planning are facilitating lessons for the community in how to use the new station and pump. A free community event is also being held at the Long Gully BMX track. Bike hoops have been installed at the LGNC to further support increased active travel in the community.

Activation initiatives in Kangaroo Flat - cooking session during Seniors Week

Geocaching in Heathcote and Long Gully, offered a fun, low-cost way to boost physical activity and outdoor exploration. Workshops and a school holiday competition led to many finds on the geocaching app, and importantly, strong family engagement, especially among primary-aged children. The activity built confidence and skills, and is now well-positioned for long-term sustainability with support from Geocaching Victoria and Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre.

The Light Up the Night project aimed to improve access to recreation reserves in Wedderburn and Inglewood by installing lighting for evening use during winter. google.comStoryWalks are a fun and educational activity that places a children�??s story (literally a book taken apart!) along a popular walking route in the community. They are a physical activity and a literary experience in one. The StoryWalk in Campaspe Shire is a bit different to our other StoryWalks because it's portable - meaning it can be moved to lots of different locations for all to enjoy! The portable StoryWalk is currently at Echuca Library where it will be used for regular storytimes and events.

Delivery of a weekly before-school fitness program for school children in Term 4 2021 and Term 1 2022 using existing infrastructure at Tongala Primary School. The program provided an opportunity for children in Tongala to learn physical activity skills as well as a chance to connect with other children. The program also encouraged families to be active together.
Providing support to Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School to increase consumption of healthy food within their community. The project included: - Enrolment in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. - Support to develop a shared calendar between garden staff/students, kitchen garden/staff and caf?? staff/students to increase planting, harvesting and use of produce. - Support to include the garden program as an option for school subject selection. - Installation of a permanent watering system throughout the garden to improve sustainability, quality and amount of produce and reduce the need for staff/volunteers to have to maintain the garden by hand. - Installation of a small greenhouse to enable the school to propagate their own seeds, with the view to being fully sustainable, as well as creating a seed library for the wider community. - Providing small-scale kitchen equipment including fridge, freezer and scales to assist with produce storage, preparation of meals and waste reduction. - Assessment of their caf?? menu assessment to support offering of healthy options.
