The Second World War began for Belgium at this location in 1940. Germany launched a surprise attack on Fort Eben-Emael. Until then, it was believed that this fort was impregnable. Yet, the Germans managed to force its surrender in less than 48 hours. Today, you can wander through the fort's more than 5 km long corridors and learn all about its history.
