La Louvière developed mainly during the industrial revolution. The city is closely connected to mining and canal infrastructure. It is known for the Canal du Centre and its historic boat lifts which are UNESCO listed. These engineering works are a major attraction in the region. La Louvière also hosts cultural events and museums linked to industry and labor history. The city is less touristy but offers an interesting insight into Walloon heritage. It is often combined with visits to nearby industrial sites.
