Château fort de Bouillon stands high on a rocky ridge above the Semois River and the layered stone walls follow the curve of the cliff so the fortress seems to grow out of the landscape. Inside the passageways feel narrow and winding with arches and stairways that lead from open courtyards to dim tunnels cut through the rock. Views from the ramparts stretch across the valley where the river bends around the town and the forested hills rise in soft layers. The mix of rugged towers calm outlooks and the sound of the river below gives the castle a strong and ancient character that feels closely tied to its setting.
