Elijah McClain (1996–2019) was a 23-year-old Black massage therapist and musician who died in August 2019 after being forcibly restrained by police and injected with an overdose of the sedative ketamine by paramedics in Aurora, Colorado. While initially no charges were filed, the case gained national attention during the 2020 racial justice protests, leading to a state investigation and the eventual conviction of one police officer and two paramedics
