Ironic Biotech is a Lund-based food tech startup using precision fermentation to produce plant-derived heme iron proteins that facilitate iron absorption into the bloodstream. The company's ingredient addresses iron deficiency and anaemia — among the world's most common nutritional deficiencies — by providing a bioavailable, plant-based alternative to animal-derived heme. Ironic Biotech raised €1 million in pre-seed funding in 2024 led by Nordic Foodtech VC, and is developing its fermentation platform for scale-up.
