When Nizario and his brothers opened their first pizzeria on 16th Street in 1983, they built a following on cheesy garlic bread and hand-topped pies that would eventually span from the Castro to the Richmond District. Still family-run after four decades, the late-night pizzeria draws crowds for the California Special—a pesto-laden pie topped with spinach, feta, and chicken—alongside those legendary garlic bread slabs that disappear before the pizza arrives.
