Laha's Red Castle • 1934

A vintage Vulcan Hart grill from the 1950s still cranks out chili-dipped burgers at this eight-stool counter just off Lincoln Square, where William and Sally Laha first fired up the flat-top in 1934. Four generations later, the family still smashes beef patties into that seasoned griddle, piling on grilled onions and dipping the bun in homemade chili for a burger voted Kentucky's best. The burger smell alone draws pilgrims from across the state—some say the aroma can reach the gas station up the road.
