Nick Skorup opened this tiny horseshoe-counter drive-in along old Highway 30 in 1946 to avoid the coal mines that took his brother and father. Known as the Home of the Shamrock, the signature double-patty burger gets its name from the spring opening near St. Patrick's Day—a catchy moniker that's stuck for nearly eight decades.
