Andy Cotton and John Meddaugh launched this Austin submarine sandwich institution with just $2,500 in 1975, determined to bring fresh subs to a city that had none. ThunderCloud still slices every ingredient daily and receives bread deliveries each morning, a ritual that has carried the shop from its humble start to 30 locations across Central Texas. The Classic Italian, piled high with meats and peppers on warm bread, remains the sandwich that built an empire.
