Cordelia Knott began frying chicken at a modest roadside stand in 1934, serving it alongside homemade biscuits and boysenberry pies that drew such relentless crowds her husband Walter built a ghost town—then an entire theme park—just to entertain the waiting diners. The original fried chicken recipe still emerges from the kitchen, golden and crackling, paired with those same buttery biscuits and thick boysenberry preserves. Guests today sit down to the same meal that launched an American amusement empire, served in a sprawling dining room where the wait is finally optional.
