Grain House • 1768

A water-powered grist mill built by Samuel Lewis in 1768, this stone building stored grain for Washington's Continental Army during the Revolution before becoming a restaurant in the 1930s. Fieldstone walls and hand-hewn beams frame tables where diners still gather for French onion soup and crab cakes. The colonial-era structure sits along the Passaic River, its history etched into every beam.
