Doug Prince brought his recipe from a Dallas State Fair burger master to Houston in the 1930s, opening drive-ins where carhops in sequined majorette uniforms served burgers fried in their own juices alongside hand-cut onion rings and chocolate malteds. After closing in 1990 and reviving in the mid-'90s, Prince's returned again in 2020 at Sharpstown Park Golf Course, still making root beer from scratch and grilling the same old-fashioned burger that once drew Elvis Presley after his 1955 concert.
