When Elizabeth Steel began stirring copper pans of fudge on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in 1919, she launched what would become a Jersey Shore institution. Over a century later, Steel's still makes its handmade fudge and salt water taffy using the same formula and the same pans, earning recognition from Food Network as boardwalk candy royalty. The coconut fudge draws devotees back year after year, but flavors like vanilla English walnut and caramel turtle keep the century-old tradition alive.
