Three Croatian immigrants opened a coffee stand on San Francisco's Long Wharf in 1849, and that humble beginning grew into California's oldest continuously operating restaurant. Tadich Grill built its reputation on mesquite charcoal-broiled seafood—the cioppino remains legendary—served by white-jacketed waiters who move through the Art Deco dining room with practiced efficiency. The booths fill daily with those who come for sand dabs, Dungeness crab, and a taste of Gold Rush-era San Francisco.
