Sam's Bar-B-Que is a family-owned East Austin institution established in 1957 by Sam Campbell, now run by Brian Mays who has operated it since 1977. Known for its traditional Texas barbecue cooked on an indoor brick pit, the restaurant specializes in brisket, ribs, mutton, and chicken, and has been a cultural landmark in the historically Black East Austin community for nearly seven decades.
