A retired circus clown named Ben Sears and his wife Hilbur turned her Swedish family pancake recipe into a Union Square legend in 1938. The signature platter arrives stacked eighteen silver-dollar-sized pancakes high, still made from the original recipe and served with lingonberries. Generations of San Franciscans and visitors alike line up for the tiny, delicate cakes that made this Powell Street institution famous.
