Quarter-pound Schickhaus beef-pork dogs slow-cooked on the original boardwalk griddle have drawn Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, and generations of Shore pilgrims to this third-generation family spot since Max Altman opened on the Long Branch pier in 1928. Now rebranded as Max's Bar & Grill under Jennifer Maybaum's stewardship, the restaurant still serves those same Jersey Shore-style hot dogs — charred, split-casing, and hanging off the bun — that once earned a gubernatorial proclamation as the state's finest.
