A white clapboard shack on the edge of Colchester's town green, Harry's has slung burgers, hot dogs, and hand-cut fries since Harry Schmuckler opened the stand in 1920. Ruby Cohen, a teenage employee who quit school to buy the business, moved it to Lebanon Avenue in the late 1920s, and his family has run it since 1978. Each spring, the seasonal opening signals warmer days ahead—and lines that stretch across the gravel lot for a taste of unchanged American roadside tradition.
