When UT student Hilbert Maldonado and his wife Lucille opened their Cameron Road burger joint in 1973, they set out to make the best burger in Austin—and five decades later, families in their fourth generation still swear they succeeded. The charbroiled burgers come with hand-breaded onion rings made daily in the kitchen, real-deal fries, and thick milkshakes from the couple's original recipes. Behind the old-school marquee sign, the Maldonado family still works the grill, still hand-breads their chicken fried steak sandwiches, and still delivers burgers across the city just like they did when Hill-Bert's became Austin's first burger joint to offer delivery.
