Fraunces Tavern • 1762

In the Long Room upstairs, George Washington bid farewell to his Continental Army officers in December 1783, cementing this 1762 tavern's place in American lore. Before that moment, Samuel Fraunces's establishment in Lower Manhattan served as a Sons of Liberty meeting spot and bore witness to the Birch Trials that freed thousands of Black Loyalists. The tavern still pours pints and serves its storied Chicken Pot Pie beneath the same Georgian brick where revolution was plotted.
