Greek immigrants John Katzourakis and Nick Katsanevas turned a hotdog stand at this corner into a Utah institution, bringing a pastrami burger recipe that flopped in California but went gang-busters in Salt Lake City. The Crown Burger stacks hot pastrami over a charbroiled beef patty with Thousand Island, lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese—a collision of Jewish deli, Greek tradition, and American comfort that spawned an entire genre of regional burger joints. Six months after opening, lines were so long they bought the gas station behind them just to expand.
