America's oldest Italian restaurant has weathered six relocations, two fires, and the 1906 earthquake since Angelo Del Monte founded it to feed homesick Italian gold miners in North Beach. The Northern Italian menu still centers on the classics—osso buco, housemade risotto, and tortellini Bologna—that founder Del Monte brought from his Ligurian and Tuscan roots. Live piano music and that mahogany-and-brass bar from the 1920s anchor a room where Enrico Caruso dined the night before the great quake.
