The Gates of Dawn is one of the most important historical and religious landmarks in Vilnius. It was built in the early sixteenth century as part of the city’s defensive walls and it is the only surviving gate from that fortification system. Inside the gate is a chapel that holds the revered icon of the Virgin Mary which attracts pilgrims from Lithuania Poland and many other countries. The structure features a blend of Gothic and Renaissance elements and overlooks one of the oldest streets in the city. The site is known for its spiritual atmosphere architectural significance and strong cultural presence in daily life.
