Grasse is a hilltop town above the French Riviera known as the perfume capital of France due to its long tradition of flower growing and fragrance production. Visitors can tour historic perfumeries where they learn about distillation techniques and create their own scent as part of a workshop. The old town has narrow streets, shaded squares and tall pastel houses that show the town’s medieval past. From the terraces around the cathedral the view reaches across the hills to the sea which makes it a pleasant place for slow walks or short photo stops. Grasse is also surrounded by fields of roses, jasmine and lavender that bloom in different seasons and give the area a soft floral fragrance.
