Peristil Square is the central ceremonial courtyard of Diocletian’s Palace and one of the most impressive historic spaces in Split. Surrounded by tall Roman columns, elegant arches and detailed stone facades the square was once the main gathering place of the imperial complex where the emperor appeared before citizens and important guests. Today Peristil remains the cultural heart of the Old Town filled with sunlight, music and the lively rhythm of daily life. The mix of ancient architecture and modern activity creates a special atmosphere where visitors can sit on stone steps, admire centuries old details and watch the city flow by. At night the square becomes even more enchanting as soft lights illuminate the marble surfaces and the sounds of local performers echo between the walls. Peristil Square is a place where Split’s Roman past and vibrant present come together beautifully.
