Fort Lovrijenac stands on a high rocky cliff just outside Dubrovnik’s Old Town and is one of the city’s most impressive historic landmarks. The fort rises above the sea with thick stone walls and commanding views of the coastline and the red rooftops of the city. Visitors enter through a narrow gateway and climb stone steps that lead to open terraces, quiet corridors and lookout points that once served as defensive positions. From the top you can see the city walls, the bright blue water below and the green outline of Lokrum Island. The fort has a dramatic atmosphere and is often used for cultural events and performances. A visit to Fort Lovrijenac offers a mix of history, striking scenery and a sense of Dubrovnik’s long maritime past.
