Jade/Chempita Cenote

Cenote Jade, also known as Chempita, is located in the central‑southern area of Cozumel, near El Cedral, and is one of the few accessible cenotes on the island. Surrounded by jungle, it offers a unique natural experience with transparent waters that take on a jade‑green hue due to sediments at the bottom, which is why it bears its name. Beyond its scenic beauty, the Mayan caves and grottos in the area once served ceremonial and spiritual purposes, used as offering sites and connections to the underworld in the Mayan worldview.
