Lainzer Tiergarten is a large nature reserve on the western edge of Vienna and it is known for its peaceful forests open meadows and rich wildlife. The area was once an imperial hunting ground and it still has a calm natural atmosphere with long walking paths quiet hills and historic gates. Visitors can see wild boar deer and many bird species while exploring the park on well marked trails. One of the highlights is the Hermesvilla a historic villa built for Empress Elisabeth which adds a cultural element to the natural surroundings. Lainzer Tiergarten is a popular destination for hiking picnics and relaxed days in nature far from the busy city streets.
