The Lobau is a protected natural area on the eastern side of Vienna and it forms an important part of the National Park Donau-Auen. It is one of the last remaining floodplain landscapes along the Danube with wetlands quiet backwaters dense forests and wide meadows that create a wild and untouched atmosphere. The area is home to many animal species including deer beavers rare birds and amphibians which makes it an ideal place for nature observation. Visitors can explore the Lobau on walking paths cycling routes and canoe trails that lead through calm water areas and shaded forest corridors. The landscape feels remote even though it is close to the city and it offers one of the most authentic natural experiences in the Vienna region.
