The Danube Island is a long narrow island between the Danube River and the New Danube and it is one of Vienna’s most popular outdoor recreation areas. The island offers wide paths for cycling running and walking as well as natural swimming spots small beaches open lawns and quiet places for picnics. In summer it becomes a lively destination with water activities bars sports areas and the annual Donauinselfest which is one of the largest open air festivals in Europe. The island stretches for more than twenty kilometers which gives plenty of space for both active visitors and those looking for a peaceful escape close to the water.
