Göttweig Abbey is a magnificent Benedictine monastery located on a high hill above the Danube near Krems and it is often called the Austrian Monte Cassino because of its striking position and grand architecture. The abbey dates back to the eleventh century and its Baroque buildings form an impressive complex with courtyards wide terraces and panoramic views over the Wachau Valley.
